Rotary Club News and Notes...
Paper: Philadelphia Inquirer, The (PA) Title: Best
Find: Magic Sojourn Date: March 11, 2007 What it offers:
The shelves, displays and glass cases at the magic shop are brimming with more than 1,500 ways to astound and amaze. There
are coin tricks, card tricks, close-up magic for the small group, and stage parlor tricks that are prop-heavy show-stoppers
for a birthday party. The categories of magic sound like they could be college courses: sleight-of-hand,
escapology and mentalism. "I may not be able to read minds," owner John Bodner said, "but I can sure as heck
make it look like I can."Bodner's bewitching emporium is a dimly lit storefront on the main drag in Bristol Borough.
Tricks can range from $5 for the inexpensive to $600 for the kind of extravagant wizardry that requires equipment to deliver
the magically delicious. The shop also carries an extensive collection of books and DVDs to explain the how-tos.
Bodner teaches customers the basic tricks, but for the more complicated hijinks, additional explanation is provided. Most popular trick: Magic Sojourn's top seller is a trick called Scotch and Soda, a coin trick that offers 60 different
illusions, including a coin that appears to pass through a hand, change places, or turn into another coin. Founding the shop: Bodner got hooked on magic as a youngster watching magicians such as Mark Wilson, Doug Henning and David
Copperfield on television. He worked as a computer technician and sold cars and custom furniture before deciding to try his
hand at magic He took a course on entrepreneurship and then sold magic tricks from a rented kiosk at the
Neshaminy Mall for more than a year. In 2004, he opened Magic Sojourn after finding what he thought was the perfect place
in Bristol. Friday nights at Magic Sojourn: Attached to the main store is a small "theater" that
Bodner calls the Magic Room. Bodner sometimes hosts birthday parties and other events there, but on Friday nights, the magic
room is like open mic at a comedy club. It's a place where magicians and aspiring magicians gather to
share, eat a few snacks, and learn. "You show a trick, and they show a trick," Bodner said. "The whole thing
is just based on the love of magic." Where: 328 Mill St., Bristol Borough. Phone: 215-788-5755. Web:

Our Company
This is where you can learn about our company and its history. We have been interested in starting our own business for many
years and are excited to finally have reached that goal. Taking our business to the web makes the process even more exciting.
Our Shop
John Bodner has been doing magic for 35 years. He has performed magic both professionally and socially and has used it
continuously in his 20 year career in sales. Having purchased thousands of dollars worth of magic through out his life by
mail order and the internet, John realized that a lot of the magic he purchased did not suit his needs or it was junk. The
only time he felt assured of his purchase is when the trick was actually demonstrated to him in a magic shop. He could see
what he was actually buying. With this knowledge, a desire to own his own business and his love of magic, John decided to
open a magic shop. He started the business as a kiosk in Neshaminy Mall, Bensalem, Pa. He began with 50 tricks to sell.
He continued to add to his inventory to service his repeat customers and with 650 tricks he soon outgrew his small location.
In August 2004, John moved his shop to a 200 year old building in Historic Bristol Borough. The building enhances the old
time Magic Shoppe feel. Today he has over 1500 magical items!
